Best Practices: |
- Use a soil test to determine if Organic Compost helps provide what your soil needs
and to suggest what the appropriate application rate is for your situation.
- Consider adding additional nutrients at the appropriate rate to the compost before
spreading. This practice cuts down on spreading costs, provides a great medium for
spreading, and may result in a decrease in loss of soluble nutrients.
- In preplant preparation and reconditioning soil mix organic compost throughout the
root zone of the plant/s, water the beds down 1-3 times 3 days apart. This practice
reduces soluble nutrients in the root zone and allows the compost to have time to
stimulate beneficial microbial activity.
- Final seedbed preparation for direct seeding includes using _"organic compost at the very
top of the soil to hold moisture and allow for germination and early root development. Be
sure to water 1" at least one time before planting your seeds.
- Top dress a new lawn with compost after the lawn shows significant new growth (a least one month).
After applying a top dressing of compost, apply _" to 1" of water
